I went to a lot of pop culture events last year. Today, I am going to review my favorite events. In April, I attended the Tamashii Nations 10th World Tour. The two-day collectible figurine event was held at Vanderbilt Hall in Grand Central Station. I seen so many different anime figurines and displays. My highlight of this event was the Dragon Ball Z nimbus cloud display. You can pose while taking a picture on the nimbus cloud. My excitement was over 9000.
Another event I really enjoyed was Japan Day. Japan Day is an annual event held in May in Central Park. This event allowed New Yorkers and visitors to learn about Japanese culture. They had tents featuring food, aspects of Japanese culture such as the bullet train, trying on Kimonos, and Japanese performances. My favorite tent was trying on Kimonos. I loved trying on the Kimonos. The people who assisted me in trying them on were helpful.
In August I got to check out a convention called Play NYC held at Terminal 5. Play NYC is a two-day gaming convention for video game players, and creators. The con featured gaming releases from indie developers. The best thing about the convention was that every game available was a playable demo. I tried rhythm-based games, platforms and etc. My favorite game was the one where you control a mother bird. The goal is to hatch and raise baby birds. The goal is achieved by capturing small animals for the birds.
In the fall I attended two anime conventions. In October, I went to New York Comic Con. It is an annual event held at the Javits Convention center, which draws thousands of comic book and anime fans. NYCC has a plethora of events for attendees. Some highlights of the convention were a panel on geek journalism in the 21st century, the free photobooths, the Rilakkuma booth, and all the vendors. Following NYCC, I got to attend the first ever AnimeNYC convention in November. This con is also held at the Javits Convention Center. It is on a smaller scale than NYCC but there were still many events to enjoy. My favorite parts of the con were the arcade section and a panel with Tumblr. I played a rhythm-based game called Pump It Up 2 2017. Tumblr’s panel was on their Fandometrics. I enjoyed that panel because I learned about the website’s weekly popular trends in pop culture according to its users. I am excited to see what AnimeNYC 2018 will be like.
Looking back on 2017, I had a lot of fun. Originally I felt like I didn’t do much this year. Recapping all these events reminded me I accomplished a lot and had fun. I learning to enjoy myself more to deal with stress.
I like your insight on videogame events in nyc. There is so much to do with little money required.
