In honor of national pet day here are some movies and televisions you should check out with your pets.
- “Air Bud”
Air Bud is Golden Retriever who shoots basketball hoops. In the movie the dog is known as “Buddy.” The real-life Buddy was adopted by Kevin di Cicco after he was found as a stray dog in the Sierra Nevada in the summer of 1989. Cicco trained Buddy in the sports of basketball, soccer, football, and hockey. The movies in the series are Air Bud (1997), Air Bud: Golden Retriever (1998), Air Bud: World Pup (2000), Air Bud: Seventh Inning Fetch(2002), Air Bud: Spikes Back (2003). In each movie, Air Bud learns in another sport.
2. “Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey”
This 1993 American adventure comedy film stars Chance the American bulldog, Shadow the Golden Retriever and Sally the Himalayan cat. The premise of this movie is that the family of the animals moves to San Francisco. The pets are left with a family friend on the ranch. Kate, the family friend goes on a cattle drive leaving the pets to be looked at by her neighbor Frank. Frank does not see her message and thinks she has taken them along. The pets realized that their host has disappeared and believes they have been abandoned. The whole movie is the pets journey back to their owners. In the sequel, the owners of the pets decide to take a trip to Canada. At the airport, the animals escape after Chance panics with airport workers thinking their workers from the pound. Throughout the movie, the pets explore San Francisco trying to get home.
3. “The Aristocats”
This 1970 animated Walt Disney film revolves around a family of aristocratic cats and how an alley cat helps them after a butler kidnaps to gain his mistress’s fortune which belongs to them. The Aristocats originally began as a script for a two-part live-action episode for Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color, developed by writers Tom McGowan and Tom Rowe and producer Harry Tytle. The film takes place in Paris 1910, mother cat Duchess and her three kittens, Berlioz, Marie, and Toulouse live with retired opera diva Madame Adelaide Bonfamille, and her butler, Edgar. Edgar learns that Madame Adelaide declares to leave her cats her fortune. From then on Edgar plots to eliminate the cats.
4. “The Secret Life of Pets”
The Secret Life of Pets is a 2016 American computer-animated comedy film produced by Illumination Entertainment. The film features the voices of Louis C.K., Eric Stonestreet, Kevin Hart, Dana Carvey and more. Released in 2016 this movie is about exactly what the title says, describing the lives of pets. This movie is good because as pet owners we wonder what our pets are doing while we are out. The movie shows the lives of different pets.
5. “Downward Dog”
No this is not the yoga pose. There is an actual show called “Downward Dog”. The ABC series premiered in May 2017. The series follows the adventures of Martin, a philosophizing dog, and his owner Nan. This show is only eight episodes long but it is still a good watch.
